Dental Crowns

There are several types of dental restorations. For children who damage or lose their baby teeth, a temporary restoration can be a better and more affordable choice. However, at ABC Dental, we offer every available option to fit your preferences, needs, and budget.

Types of Restorations

The term “dental restoration” is sometimes used interchangeably with “filling” and other dental interventions. Basically, it “restores” a tooth that’s been chipped, broken, or knocked out by some type of trauma. Restoring a tooth helps preserve the health of your mouth while keeping that smile as infectious as it’s always been!

There are two major types of tooth restorations: direct and indirect.

With direct restorations, a “soft filling” is put in the prepped tooth in order to build it up before hardening. Usually this quick process can be done in one office visit. This procedure results in a very solid restoration that can stand up to the wear and tear a child might demand of it.

Indirect restorations require dental impressions, and the restoration is created outside the mouth. This type of restoration is common for inlays and dental crowns—basically more advanced restorations. The finished product is then “bonded” directly onto teeth via a very strong cement.

Dental Crowns

Crowns are a very versatile treatment. They can be used in a wide variety of situations to protect your tooth.

Whether your tooth has been broken or cracked somehow, we can use a dental crown to restore and protect it. In some cases, we can even use dental crowns for teeth that have significant decay.

A dental crown acts as a cap for a tooth. By covering the visible portion of the tooth, a dental crown can keep the tooth structure together and close it off from bacteria and food particles that can cause decay.
